Providing a secure environment for pets is one of the most common reasons homeowners invest in professional fencing. This week, we headed to the coastal village of Starcross to tackle a project that required a blend of high-level security and aesthetic appeal.
The Project: Secure Boundaries for Pet Owners
The existing boundary was no longer fit for purpose, particularly with dogs in the family. After discussing the options, the client opted for pressure-treated timber Close Board fencing. This style is a favourite across Devon because of its overlapping vertical pales, which offer excellent wind resistance and zero visibility from the outside—perfect for reactive pets.

We also installed a custom 6ft gate. Given Starcross's proximity to the Exe Estuary, we used galvanised hinges, latches, and bolts. The galvanisation process protects the steel from corrosion, which is essential for properties near the salt air of the coast.

Local Expertise in Starcross
As local fencing contractors, we know the Starcross area well. Whether you are living near the Starcross Ferry or further up towards Mamhead, your garden has to stand up to the elements. This particular install was located just a short distance from Powderham Castle, where the ground can vary, but our deep-set posts ensure the fence remains level and sturdy despite any local soil shifts.

Built for the British Weather
Every piece of timber we use is pressure-treated to prevent rot and insect attack. By using thick timber gravel boards at the base, we've ensured the main fence panels are kept off the damp ground, significantly extending the life of the installation.
